1200mm Terrazzo Double Vanity — Two Basins Cast Into One Slab

Terrazzo is the one surface in a bathroom that reads as expensive without trying: a cement binder with graded aggregate, ground flat and honed, so the chips are cut through rather than printed on top. It also solves the problem that kills most double vanities. A 1200mm double with two separate ceramic basins leaves a strip of stone between them, and that strip is where water sits, where silicone fails and where the joint line starts to grey within two years. Here both basins are cast into the same 20mm slab as the counter, so there is no rim, no silicone bead and no seam to fail — the top is one continuous piece of terrazzo with two depressions in it. The fronts are deliberately quiet: four matt warm-white lacquered drawers, 5 gloss units, completely handleless, with a 3mm finger groove under the counter edge and continuous shadow gaps, so the terrazzo is the only pattern in the room. Behind the fronts sits an 18mm plywood carcass on Blum TandemBox runners and a steel hanging bracket rated well above the loaded weight of the slab. Sized for German family bathrooms and premium apartment programmes at 1200mm, with 1400 and 1600mm on the same tooling. A 20-piece OEM/ODM programme, factory-direct from Jiangshan.

  • One 20mm terrazzo slab at 1200 × 480mm, cement-based binder with graded 6 to 8mm aggregate in cream, sand, pale grey and charcoal — chips cut through by grinding and honing, not printed, so they do not wear off
  • Both basins cast into the same slab as the counter — no rim, no silicone bead, no joint line between top and bowl, which is the failure point on every double vanity built from two separate basins
  • Honed matte surface at roughly 300 grit: grippy underfoot when wet, no gloss to show limescale, and repairable in place with a 400 grit pad where a hard-water ring forms
  • 100mm upstand cut from the same slab and batch, so the chip pattern continues up the wall instead of stopping at a terrace line
  • Four drawer fronts in matt warm-white lacquer at 5 gloss units, completely handleless, with a 3mm recessed finger groove under the counter edge and continuous 3mm shadow gaps between fronts
  • Blum TandemBox soft-close full-extension runners rated 40kg, with a three-way adjustable clip-on hinge set for the tall cabinet option and a cost-equivalent Chinese runner set on the same drilling for entry price points
  • 18mm plywood carcass with sealed ABS edges and an 8mm back panel — plywood rather than chipboard, because a 20mm stone slab plus two full basins punishes any rack in the box
  • Steel hanging bracket rated above the loaded weight, with a written wall specification: masonry or 18mm structural plywood behind the plasterboard, never a dot-and-dab drylining alone
  • Standard widths of 1200 / 1400 / 1600mm at 480mm depth and 500mm cabinet height, so single-basin 800 and 1000mm versions run on the same carcass tooling
  • Optional LED mirror with anti-fog pad and three colour temperatures at 3000 / 4000 / 6500K, IP44 rated for zone 2, wired to a single switch or a sensor
  • Ships knocked down with the slab crated upright and separately from the carcass — a 1200mm terrazzo top is around 28kg on its own, so it travels as its own crate, not inside a carton with the cabinet
  • MOQ 20 pieces per model; widths, the 20mm or 30mm slab and the basin mix can be split inside the 20, and a custom aggregate mix needs a 60-piece run for a dedicated batch
  • Batch-matched aggregate — every top in one run is poured from a single batch, so the chip pattern stays consistent across a container, and a re-order a year later is a close match rather than an exact one

Countertop20mm terrazzo slab, cement-based binder with graded 6 to 8mm aggregate, ground and honed to a matte finish; 100mm upstand from the same batch; 30mm slab available as an upgrade with a matching apron
BasinsTwo rectangular basins cast into the slab as one piece — 480 × 340 × 120mm internal each, 15mm wall thickness at the base, no overflow slot unless specified, 40mm waste with a matching terrazzo or stainless cover
Fronts and finishFour 18mm MDF drawer fronts, matt warm-white polyurethane lacquer at 5 gloss units, handleless with a 3mm recessed finger groove under the counter edge; alternative colours to RAL or NCS, and a lacquered oak veneer front on the same carcass
HardwareBlum TandemBox soft-close full-extension runners rated 40kg per drawer bank; clip-on concealed hinges with three-way adjustment on the tall cabinet option; a cost-equivalent runner set on identical drilling for entry price points
MirrorOptional 1200 × 700mm LED mirror with anti-fog pad, three colour temperatures at 3000 / 4000 / 6500K, touch dimmer and IP44 rating for zone 2; plain 5mm silver mirror also available
Installation and wall fixingSupplied with a steel hanging rail and a written wall specification: masonry, concrete or 18mm structural plywood behind the board, with the fixing centres marked on the rail; a 1200mm loaded unit with slab is roughly 85kg, so dot-and-dab plasterboard alone is not accepted

Product FAQ

Why terrazzo rather than the sintered stone or marble tops on the rest of the range?
Weight, repairability and pattern. Terrazzo is a cement binder with real aggregate, so a chip or a hard-water ring can be ground back with a 400 grit pad on site, which marble cannot do and a printed surface cannot do at all. Against sintered stone it is heavier and thicker at 20mm, but it is warmer to the touch, does not ring when a glass is set down, and the aggregate pattern is through the full slab thickness rather than a 3mm decorative layer. If weight is the constraint, the 900mm oak vanity with a one-piece sintered basin on the same programme is the lighter route.
Are the basins really seamless, or is there a joint that has been hidden?
Cast as one piece. The slab is poured with the two depressions formed, then ground and honed flat, so the bowl wall and the counter are the same material with no rim and no silicone line. That is the reason for the 20mm thickness: a thinner slab cannot be cast with a 120mm bowl depth and stay stable through curing. The only visible break in the surface is the 40mm waste.
Does terrazzo stain, and what does maintenance actually involve?
Sealed terrazzo resists water and normal bathroom soaps; oil-based cosmetics left standing are the real risk. We apply a penetrating water-repellent before packing, and the counter should be re-sealed once a year with a solvent-based impregnator — a 20-minute job with a cloth. Nothing flakes off, because there is no coating to flake; the sealer sits in the pores.
Can the top be ordered separately for a retrofit?
Yes, as a slab-only line, provided the carcass below matches our drilling or you take our bracket set with it. Aggregate batches are matched by number, so a top ordered a year later will be a close match rather than an exact one — we would send a 200 × 300mm sample of the current batch first so you can compare it against the installed unit.
How heavy is it, and what wall does a 1200mm terrazzo double need?
Around 85kg loaded, roughly 28kg of which is the slab. The steel hanging rail is rated well above that, but the load has to reach structure: masonry, concrete, or 18mm structural plywood fixed back to studs. On drylined walls the plywood pattress has to go in before tiling, so this decision belongs in the design stage, not the install day.
How does a 20-piece programme work, and what are the lead times?
Twenty pieces per model, and the 20 can be split across the three widths and two slab thicknesses. A custom aggregate mix is the exception at 60 pieces, because the batch has to be run as one pour to keep the chips consistent. Production is 30 to 35 days after approval, and sea freight to Hamburg or Bremerhaven adds 30 to 35 days. We are a 20,000 m² factory in Jiangshan, Zhejiang, and supply several of the world's ten largest building-material brands on the same lines.
