900 mm Freijó Slat Vanity with a Sculpted Solid-Surface Basin for Brazilian Apartments

Most Brazilian apartment bathrooms are not designed around the vanity — they are what is left after the shower, the door swing and the window. In a typical 2.4 m² room the usable wall is 1.4 to 1.6 m, the door needs 600 mm to open, and the cabinet depth has to stay near 460 mm or the room stops working. That geometry is why 900 mm is the volume width in Brazil and why an 800 mm unit often ends up with a plastic rack beside it. The other local constraint is humidity: from Manaus to the Baixada Santista, an MDP carcass that is fine in Curitiba will swell at the cut edge within two summers on the coast. This set answers both — a 900 mm wall-hung carcass in sealed naval plywood, two deep drawers in 12 mm freijó slats, and a 20 mm solid-surface top sculpted into a one-piece bowl so there is no joint, no rim and no silicone line to redo later. It is drawn for importers running a 20-piece programme rather than a container of one SKU.

  • 900 mm W x 460 mm D x 500 mm H wall-hung carcass — the width that clears a 1.5 m apartment wall while still leaving the 600 mm the door needs, and the shallow 460 mm depth that keeps a 2.4 m² bathroom walkable
  • Two full-depth drawers, each front faced in 12 mm vertical freijó slats at 12 mm pitch with a 4 mm shadow gap, laminated onto an 18 mm carrier board so the slats are a decorative skin rather than a structural risk
  • 20 mm solid-surface top with the bowl sculpted into the same slab — non-porous mineral composite, 480 x 340 x 120 mm bowl, gently sloped walls, no overflow slot cut into the front face, so there is no trap recess to clean and no gasket line
  • 18 mm naval plywood carcass (compensado naval) with sealed ABS edges and an 8 mm moisture-resistant back panel — specified for coastal and Amazon-basin humidity where MDP swells at an unsealed cut edge
  • Matte black aluminium bar pulls at 320 mm centres, through-bolted from inside the drawer box on the same 128 / 160 / 320 mm drilling pattern as the brass option, so a project can change finish without redrilling a single front
  • Twin-carton export pack: cabinet carton 960 x 520 x 560 mm at 28 kg gross, top-and-mirror carton 1000 x 520 x 180 mm at 14 kg gross, foam corner blocks, 5-layer board and a rigid insert around the solid-surface slab
  • Optional 900 mm mirror cabinet with 4000K edge LED at CRI 90+, IP44 rated, touch switch and shaver socket, quoted as its own SKU so the cabinet can ship with or without it on the same programme
  • Blum soft-close runners and hinges available as an upgrade on the identical carcass drilling; standard supply is a 35 kg concealed soft-close runner with a 3 mm even reveal across both drawers

Product FAQ

Why 900 mm rather than 800 mm for a Brazilian apartment bathroom?
Because in the 2.2 to 2.8 m² room that dominates Minha Casa Minha Vida and compact retrofit stock, the wall is the limiting dimension, not the budget. A 1.5 m wall minus a 600 mm door swing leaves roughly 900 mm of genuinely usable frontage. An 800 mm cabinet fits that wall too, but it gives up a 100 mm strip that ends up holding a plastic trolley, and it takes 100 mm out of the drawer width where the towels actually go. Where the wall is only 1.2 m clear, the same drawer and slat programme runs at 800 mm with no design change, and where it is 1.8 m the 1200 mm double version uses identical hardware.
Is a solid-surface basin better than ceramic or stone in a Brazilian bathroom?
For this price band, yes — and the reason is repair, not luxury. Ceramic chips at the rim and the chip is permanent; a stone top is heavy enough to complicate wall-hung installation and adds a fabricator to the supply chain. A solid-surface bowl is a mineral composite that can be sanded with 400 then 800 grit and polished back to a uniform matt finish if it stains or scratches, which matters in a rental or a holiday let where the unit takes hard use. It is also non-porous, so hard water in the interior of São Paulo state does not leave the mineral deposit line that shows up on unglazed stone.
Does the plywood carcass really matter, or is MDP enough?
It depends on where the container is going. In Brasília, Goiânia or Belo Horizonte, an E1 MDP carcass performs perfectly well and saves 12 to 15 percent on cost — we quote both. On the coast (Santos, Baixada Santista, Salvador, Recife, Fortaleza) and through the Amazon basin, the failure mode we see on cheap imports is not the door finish: it is the carcass edge swelling and the back panel delaminating within two wet seasons, because MDP absorbs at any unsealed cut. Sealed 18 mm naval plywood with a moisture-resistant back panel removes that failure, and it is the reason this model is specified in plywood by default rather than as an upgrade.
Do slatted drawer fronts survive a steamy bathroom?
The slats are a 12 mm decorative skin laminated onto a solid 18 mm carrier board, not a set of free-standing battens, so there is no cavity behind them for steam to sit in and no individual slat to work loose. The gap is 4 mm at 12 mm pitch — wide enough to read as texture from a metre away, narrow enough that a cloth passes over it without snagging. The finish is a matt melamine film rather than an open-pore lacquer, which is the part that matters in a wet room: film-faced slats wipe clean and do not take on the grey bloom that untreated open grain does.
What does a 20-piece order actually look like, and how does it ship?
Twenty pieces can be split across 800, 900, 1000 and 1200 mm widths and across two finishes, with custom colour starting at 50 pcs in one colour. Because the mirror is a separate SKU it can be dropped from the order entirely or added at one mirror per cabinet. Each unit ships as two cartons, so a 20-piece mixed order lands at roughly 2.6 cbm — about a quarter of a 20 ft container, which is why most Brazilian importers consolidate this with a kitchen or a second bathroom line rather than shipping it alone. Sample lead time is 7 to 10 days, production 30 to 35 days, FOB Ningbo or CIF to Santos, Paranaguá or Itapoá.
