Olive Green Matt Lacquer Kitchen — Handleless on a Brass J-Profile, Not a Groove

Olive is the warm green the market moved to once sage went pale and forest green stayed a statement. It is also the hardest green to spray, because olive is a yellow-green with a black component: on a cool basecoat it reads grey, on a warm one it reads khaki, and under a 3000K downlight a batch that looked right in the booth turns brown. This kitchen is built around that problem. The face is a 19mm slab with no frame, so there is no shadow line to hide a colour drift, and the lacquer is a two-coat polyurethane at 4 to 6 gloss units over a neutral sealed primer, approved against a 200 x 300mm sprayed sample under both 3000K and 4000K before the batch is released. Handleless without a milled groove: a 20 x 12mm anodised aluminium J-profile in brushed brass runs along the top edge of every base door and the bottom edge of every wall door, mitred at the corners and clipped into a 4mm kerf, so the pull load goes into an aluminium extrusion instead of into a 9mm MDF web. The result is a 12mm shadow line that reads as a metal detail rather than as a finger recess. Behind it, 18mm plywood carcasses on 32mm system drilling, 720mm base boxes at 570mm deep on a 100mm plinth recessed 60mm, Blum TandemBox soft-close, and a 20mm white quartz top with a fine grey speckle. A 20-piece OEM/ODM programme for kitchen studios, importers and residential developers.

  • Warm olive green matt lacquer at 4 to 6 gloss units, two-coat polyurethane over a neutral sealed primer, colour matched to a supplied panel or a RAL / NCS reference and signed off under both 3000K and 4000K light before the batch is released
  • 19mm slab doors and drawer fronts, square edge with a 1mm arris, no frame and no applied moulding — a flat face at olive has nowhere to hide a colour drift, so the panel batch is controlled rather than the styling
  • Handleless on a 20 x 12mm anodised aluminium J-profile in brushed brass, clipped into a 4mm kerf machined into the top edge of base doors and the bottom edge of wall doors, mitred at internal and external corners
  • The profile is an extrusion, not a milled finger groove: a groove removes 10mm of section from a 19mm slab, while the J-profile leaves the door full thickness and takes the pull load in aluminium, so the edge cannot crush over a few thousand openings
  • 18mm plywood carcasses with sealed ABS edges, glued and dowelled corners, 8mm back panel and 32mm system drilling on every side panel; plywood rather than chipboard because a handleless door transfers its load into the hinge plate and the front edge of the panel
  • 720mm base boxes at 570mm deep on adjustable legs behind a 100mm plinth recessed 60mm, and 330mm deep wall units at 720mm high with one adjustable shelf — a 900mm finished worktop height on the standard grid
  • Blum TandemBox soft-close full-extension drawers rated 30 to 70kg by module width, and Blum clip-on concealed hinges with three-way adjustment; a cost-equivalent runner and hinge set on identical drilling for entry price points
  • 20mm white quartz worktop with a fine grey speckle, 620mm deep, square edge and a 100mm matching upstand — white rather than cream, because a cream top pulls olive towards brown and flattens the green out of it
  • Pale grey 18mm melamine interiors with sealed edges, so a shelf is a wipe-clean surface and an open cupboard does not fight the door colour when it is open
  • Module widths of 300 / 400 / 500 / 600 / 900 / 1000mm with a 3mm front gap held across the range, so a run plans on a 100mm grid and still lands on standard sink and appliance apertures without a bespoke carcass
  • Flat-packed in 5-layer cartons with foam corner blocks, or assembled and shrink-wrapped on request; a 600mm base box ships at roughly 70 x 58 x 17cm and 33kg gross, and the J-profile is packed in its own tube per door number so nothing is cut on site
  • MOQ 20 pieces per model; widths, the one-panel or two-panel door split and a two-tone run with oak or white uppers may be mixed inside the 20, while a custom colour match or a non-standard sheen needs a 60-piece run

Product FAQ

How is olive different from the sage and forest green kitchens already in the range?
Three greens doing three jobs. Sage is a pale grey-green that reads cool and slightly herbal, and it is the one that disappears in a bright room. Forest green is dark and cool with a blue cast, and it is a statement colour that needs a large room and good light. Olive sits between them in value but not in temperature: it is a yellow-green with a black component, warmer than both, and it looks like a material rather than a paint colour. It is also the one that shifts most under artificial light, which is why the batch is approved under 3000K and 4000K rather than on a screen. Put a door from each side by side and olive is the one that reads brownish at dusk and green at midday.
Why a brass J-profile instead of a milled finger groove?
Section and repairability. A 20 x 10mm groove milled into a 19mm slab leaves 9mm of MDF behind it, and every opening pulls on that web; on a wide drawer front it is the first place the paint film crazes. The J-profile is clipped into a 4mm kerf instead, so the door keeps its full thickness, the pull load goes into an aluminium extrusion fixed to the door edge, and the visible detail is a 12mm shadow line with a metal face. It is also replaceable: a scratched profile is a two-minute clip-in swap, where a damaged groove means a new door. The trade-off is cost — the extrusion and the mitring add roughly 6 to 9 per cent to the door cost — and it has to be cut to the door list at the factory, because mitring anodised aluminium on site leaves a bright cut edge.
Will an anodised brass profile corrode in a kitchen?
Anodised aluminium is not brass-plated steel, and that distinction is the whole point: there is no ferrous substrate to rust and no lacquer film to lift. The anodised layer is a conversion coating on the aluminium itself, so it handles steam, splashes and normal kitchen cleaning. What it does not like is abrasive cream cleaner or a chlorinated bleach left standing on it, which dull the brushed grain; a damp cloth and a pH-neutral spray are enough. For a coastal project we quote the same extrusion in a slightly heavier anodising thickness, and we supply end caps for every exposed run so water cannot sit in an open profile end.
Can the colour be matched to a specific paint reference?
Yes, within reason. Send a physical panel or a RAL / NCS reference and we spray a 200 x 300mm sample for sign-off before the batch. What we will not do is match from a photograph or a screen, because olive is exactly the family where camera white balance and a monitor profile both lie. Expect a small shift between a painted wall and a sprayed cabinet even with a good match — different substrates and different film builds — so the sample is approved against the wall paint and under the light the kitchen will actually live in, not against a colour chip in a drawer.
Can I mix this with oak or white uppers in the same order?
Yes, and it is the cheapest way to test olive in a market that has been buying grey. The 20-piece minimum can be split across widths and across a two-tone split with oak or pale grey uppers on the same carcass, drilling and hinge positions, because the only thing that changes is the door finish batch. The J-profile is the same extrusion across both, which is what keeps a two-tone elevation looking deliberate rather than assembled from two ranges: the metal line runs continuously and the colour changes behind it.
What are the lead times and how does shipping work?
Twenty pieces per model, with widths and the two-tone split mixed inside the 20. Production runs 20 to 35 days after colour approval, and a custom match adds roughly 7 to 10 days because it needs its own spray batch. We ship flat-packed by default to keep the volumetric cost down — an assembled run costs roughly 40 per cent more in freight for the same kitchen — and the J-profile travels in its own tube so nothing is cut or re-mitred on site. We are a 20,000 m2 factory in Jiangshan, Zhejiang, supplying several of the world's ten largest building-material brands on the same lines.
