900mm Spotted Gum Wall-Hung Vanity — Native Australian Timber on a 20mm Stone Deck

Australian bathrooms have moved off white-and-grey toward timber, and the timber local buyers name first is spotted gum — a dense east-coast hardwood with an olive-to-honey heart and a fine, almost pencilled grain that darkens rather than yellows with age. This 900mm wall-hung vanity is faced in sliced spotted gum veneer, 0.6mm, laid so the two drawer fronts come off the same flitch and the grain runs continuously across the 3mm shadow gap instead of resetting at it. There are no handles: a finger-pull channel is routed under the top rail, so the face reads as two panels of timber and nothing else, with a 128mm brushed brass bar pull offered as the alternative for programs that want visible hardware. The deck is 20mm sintered stone — warm white with a faint grey vein, cut 460mm deep with a 20mm square edge — over an undermount vitreous china basin drilled with a single centred 35mm tap hole and a 32mm Australian waste, which is the plumbing interface AU plumbers actually expect on a basin. Underneath, an 18mm marine-grade plywood carcass with sealed edges, Blum TandemBox soft-close drawers at 340mm internal depth, and a galvanised steel hanging rail that sets the 150mm floor clearance after the tiling is finished. The carcass is 900mm wide, 460mm deep and 500mm high, which is the width Australian renovators default to in a main bathroom and the depth that still leaves a 900mm clear zone in front of the unit under AS 1428-style circulation planning. This is a 20-piece OEM/ODM programme for Australian and New Zealand importers, bathroom retailers and project joiners.

  • 900mm W x 460mm D x 500mm H carcass, wall-hung with 150mm clear underneath — the standard Australian main-bathroom width on the depth that still leaves a metre of floor in front of the unit
  • Sliced spotted gum veneer at 0.6mm on 18mm moisture-resistant MDF, laid book-matched across the two drawer fronts from one flitch so the grain carries through the shadow gap instead of restarting at it — the detail that separates a timber-faced cabinet from a printed woodgrain foil
  • Matt open-pore polyurethane at 3 to 5 gloss units, two coats over a pigmented sealer, so the pores stay visible and the surface reads as oiled timber rather than as a plastic film; matched to a supplied sample or to a natural spotted gum control board
  • Handleless face: a 20 x 15mm finger-pull channel routed under the top rail, anodised aluminium insert or painted to match, so both drawers open on the full width of the front with no visible hardware; 128mm brushed brass bar pulls can be drilled on the same fronts for programs that want a visible pull
  • Two equal-height full-width drawers on Blum TandemBox soft-close runners rated 30kg, 340mm internal depth, full extension — deep enough for a 300mm bottle standing upright, which is where shallow AU vanity drawers usually fail
  • 20mm sintered stone deck, 900 x 460mm, warm white with a faint grey vein, 20mm square edge and a 40mm matching upstand option cut from the same slab; non-porous, so toothpaste and hair dye wipe off without etching the way a sealed marble does
  • Undermount vitreous china basin, 480 x 360 x 130mm, soft-radius rectangular bowl, bonded and mechanically bracketed under the stone, with a single centred 35mm tap hole and a 32mm Australian waste outlet — no 1 1/4in European waste, no adapter needed at the trap
  • 18mm marine-grade plywood carcass with A-bond glue line and sealed ABS edges, 8mm moisture-resistant back panel, 32mm system drilling — plywood rather than chipboard because a wall-hung box in a wet room carries its load through the back panel and swells at the first leak if it is particle board
  • Galvanised steel hanging rail supplied per unit, drilled for six M8 anchors at 450 and 600mm centres to suit Australian stud spacing, with two adjustable brackets that set and level the 150mm clearance after the floor tiles are laid
  • Finish tested to 200 revolutions Taber abrasion and a 72-hour 40 degrees C / 90 percent RH humidity cycle with no veneer lift or glue creep at the edges; a touch-up pen in the batch colour ships with every order
  • Matching 900 x 750mm frameless 5mm mirror with safety backing, or a 900 x 750 x 150mm shaving cabinet with a mirrored door, two adjustable shelves and an IP44 LED option on the same fixing centres

Dimensions900mm W x 460mm D x 500mm H carcass; 520mm to the top of the 20mm stone; 150mm clear under the base; two drawer fronts at 900 x 232mm with a 3mm shadow gap; basin bowl 480 x 360 x 130mm; 35mm centred tap hole; 32mm waste outlet; 60 x 300mm service cut-out in the back panel for flexible tails. Custom widths from 500 to 1600mm in 50mm steps against a drawing.
Carcass18mm marine-grade plywood with A-bond glue line and sealed ABS edges, 8mm moisture-resistant back panel, 32mm system drilling, glued and dowelled corners with confirmat fixings at the load points. 18mm E1 MR chipboard available as a cost-down for dry inland projects. Galvanised steel hanging rail and two adjustable wall brackets supplied per unit.
Fronts and finishSliced spotted gum veneer 0.6mm on 18mm moisture-resistant MDF, book-matched across drawer fronts, matt open-pore polyurethane at 3 to 5 gloss units; solid spotted gum lipping on the top and hinge edges. American oak, walnut and blackbutt veneers run on the same pressing and the same drilling. Taber abrasion 200 revolutions and a 72-hour 40 degrees C / 90 percent RH cycle with no veneer lift, no edge creep and no gloss shift.
Basin and deck20mm sintered stone deck, 900 x 460mm, warm white with a faint grey vein, 20mm square edge, 40mm matching upstand optional; undermount vitreous china basin 480 x 360 x 130mm bonded with MS polymer and mechanically bracketed, fired at 1200 degrees C with a 0.8 to 1.0mm glaze. Alternatives on the same carcass: 20mm engineered quartz, 12mm sintered stone with a mitred edge, or a one-piece ceramic counter where the program wants no stone at all.
HardwareBlum TandemBox soft-close full-extension runners rated 30kg as the specified option, with a cost-equivalent Chinese runner set on the same 32mm drilling for entry price points; anodised aluminium finger-pull channel inserts, or 128mm brushed brass bar pulls on 128mm centres; Blum clip-on concealed hinges with three-way adjustment on door variants. Brass finish is PVD, not lacquered, so it does not wear through at the pull edge.
Mirror and shaving cabinet900 x 750mm frameless 5mm mirror with safety backing film and a 20mm bevelled or polished edge, hung on the same centres as the vanity; or a 900 x 750 x 150mm shaving cabinet with a mirrored door, two adjustable 8mm glass shelves, a magnetic catch and an IP44-rated LED strip option with a shaver socket where the destination market allows it.
InstallationWall-hung on a galvanised steel rail fixed with six M8 anchors into studs at 450 or 600mm centres or into a masonry wall; the rail goes up first and the carcass hangs on it, so the 150mm clearance and the front edge can be levelled after tiling. Two people, roughly 45 minutes per unit including the stone deck and basin; an English-language fitting sheet with anchor specification and a cut-out template ships in the carton.
PackagingCabinet flat in a 5-layer carton with foam corner blocks, approximately 94 x 50 x 26cm and 28kg gross; stone deck in a separate crate with a rigid face board and a non-woven sleeve, 900 x 460mm at 22kg; basin and mixer, where supplied, boxed in the crate void. A 20-piece mixed order lands at approximately 2.6 cbm with decks crated, 1.9 cbm cabinet-only.
MOQ and lead time20 pcs per model; widths, single or double bowl and two veneer species may be mixed inside the 20. A custom veneer, stain or painted colour starts at 50 pcs in one finish, with a 200 x 300mm veneered approval panel. Product FAQ

Why spotted gum rather than oak or walnut?
Because it is the timber Australian buyers recognise, and because it behaves differently in a bathroom. Spotted gum is a dense east-coast hardwood with an olive-brown heart and a fine, close grain; it takes a matt open-pore finish without the yellow cast that oak develops under a clear coat, and it reads warm against the grey and beige tiles most AU renovations use. What is supplied here is a sliced veneer, not solid timber: 0.6mm of spotted gum on an 18mm moisture-resistant MDF core. That matters in a wet room, because solid timber moves seasonally and a 900mm solid front will show a gap at the shadow line within a year of an Australian summer, while a veneered panel on a stable core will not. Where a project wants solid, we can quote solid spotted gum stiles on the same carcass, but the recommendation for a bathroom is veneer.
Is a veneered front actually suitable for a bathroom?
Yes, provided the veneer is specified as a system rather than a sheet. The three failure points are the face, the edges and the back. Here the face carries two coats of matt open-pore polyurethane over a pigmented sealer; every edge is lipped in solid spotted gum or sealed ABS, so water cannot wick under the veneer at the drawer edge; and the back of each front is sealed as well, so the panel is balanced and does not bow toward the wet side. The assembly is tested to a 72-hour cycle at 40 degrees C and 90 percent relative humidity with no lift or creep, which is well beyond normal bathroom conditions. What it will not survive is a permanently wet floor or a leaking trap soaking the carcass from inside — that is a plumbing fault, not a finish fault, and it is why the carcass is marine-grade plywood rather than chipboard.
Sintered stone, engineered quartz or ceramic for the top?
Three different products for three different jobs. Sintered stone at 20mm is non-porous, heat and scratch resistant and does not need sealing, which is why it is the default on this model; the trade-off is weight — a 900 x 460mm deck runs about 22kg, so the wall fixing and the rail anchors have to be right. Engineered quartz is a similar look at a lower cost and slightly softer under impact, but it can scorch under a hot hair tool left on the surface. A one-piece ceramic counter has no joint at the basin at all and takes bleach-based cleaners without dulling, but it is limited to about 1400mm because it is fired flat, and it chips rather than scratches at the edge. All three run on the same carcass and the same 35mm tap drilling, so the choice is a price-and-project decision, not a construction change.
Can this be ordered as a double-bowl or a 1200mm?
Yes. The 460mm depth, the drawer line, the finger-pull channel and the 32mm drilling are identical from 600 to 1500mm, so a 20-piece lot can mix widths freely and split between single and double bowl from 1200mm up. A double-bowl 1200mm uses two 480 x 360mm basins on the same deck thickness with the tap holes set to the project drawing, and the drawer bank is split so each bowl keeps its own drawer. Above 1500mm the deck needs a joint or a thicker slab, so those sizes are quoted against a drawing rather than from the standard programme.
How does a 20-piece order work, and what are the AU lead times?
The 20-piece MOQ is per model, not per width, so an order can mix 600, 750, 900, 1200 and 1500mm units and two veneer species inside one lot without a second set-up. A custom stain or a painted colour starts at 50 pieces in one finish, because a colour change means a spray run and a booth clean, and it needs a 200 x 300mm veneered approval panel signed off first. Sample 10 to 14 days, production 30 to 35 days, FOB Ningbo or CIF Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Fremantle. The factory is 20,000 square metres and has run export programmes for the top ten international building-material brands since 2009.
