Charcoal Grey Matt Lacquer Kitchen — A 22mm Chamfered Slab With Brushed Brass

Grey kitchens fail in one of two ways: the grey is so light it turns beige under warm light, or it is so dark it turns black and swallows the room. Charcoal sits in the narrow band between those failures — mid-dark, neutral, with a faint warm cast rather than a blue one, close to RAL 7021 but pulled back from true black-grey so it still reads as a colour at dusk. This run is that value in a two-coat polyurethane lacquer at 5 gloss units: chalky under the hand, sealed against cooking grease, and flat enough that no highlight runs along a door edge. The front is what separates it from the matt shakers already in the range. It is a 22mm slab, not a framed door — every one of the four edges is machined with a 3mm 45-degree chamfer before spraying, and the chamfer is lacquered in the same charcoal. From a metre away the chamfer catches a fine line of light and the run of fronts separates itself without a visible frame; from across the room the face reads as one continuous plane. The hardware is deliberately warm: slim brushed-brass bar pulls, 160mm on doors and 320mm on drawer banks, PVD-coated so they do not tarnish into brown the way untreated brass does near a hob. Behind the face it is an 18mm plywood carcass on 32mm system drilling with Blum soft-close throughout, 720mm base boxes on a 100mm recessed plinth for a 900mm finished height, and a 20mm warm-white quartz top with a fine grey vein. A 20-piece OEM/ODM programme for importers, kitchen studios and apartment developers.

  • Mid-dark charcoal grey with a faint warm cast — close to RAL 7021 but pulled back from true black-grey, matched to a supplied sample so it does not drift beige under 3000K light or black under 4000K
  • Two-coat polyurethane lacquer at 5 gloss units: chalky in appearance but sealed, so it resists cooking grease and wipe-down cleaners where an untreated matt paint absorbs them
  • 22mm slab fronts rather than framed doors — a flat face that gives the run one continuous plane and removes the frame line that dates a shaker kitchen fastest
  • 3mm 45-degree chamfer machined on all four edges of every front before spraying and lacquered in the same charcoal, so each door catches a fine line of light and separates itself without a visible gap
  • Uniform 3mm shadow gaps held by the hinge and runner drilling rather than site adjustment, so six fronts read as one plane with parallel lines instead of six panels at six heights
  • Slim brushed-brass bar pulls — 160mm on doors, 320mm on drawer banks, PVD-coated so they keep their tone instead of tarnishing brown near the hob, and mounted horizontally near the top edge to keep sight lines level
  • A 100mm recessed plinth in the same charcoal, set back 60mm, so the base run appears to float and the toe-kick disappears in low light instead of reading as a grey band
  • 18mm plywood carcass with sealed ABS edges, 8mm back panel and 32mm system drilling — plywood rather than chipboard, because a chamfered flush front shows any rack in the box as a widening gap
  • 720mm base carcasses on adjustable legs behind the plinth for a 900mm finished worktop height; 330mm deep wall units at 720mm high with one adjustable shelf on the 32mm system
  • 20mm warm-white quartz worktop with a fine grey vein, 620mm deep, square edge and a 100mm matching upstand — warm white rather than cool white, so the charcoal keeps its warmth instead of going blue against the stone
  • Blum TandemBox soft-close drawers rated 30 to 70kg and Blum clip-on concealed hinges with three-way adjustment; a cost-equivalent Chinese runner set on the same 32mm drilling for entry price points
  • Standard module widths of 300 / 400 / 500 / 600 / 900 / 1000mm with 570mm deep base boxes, so a run plans on a 100mm grid and still lands on standard sink and appliance apertures without a bespoke carcass

Product FAQ

How is this different from the matte black and greige kitchens already in the range?
By value and by temperature. The matte black is a true near-black with a slim shaker frame; this is mid-dark charcoal grey on a flat chamfered slab, so it holds detail in a room where black would close down. The greige fluted is lighter and cooler with a ribbed front. Charcoal is the one that sits between them and still reads as a deliberate colour under both daylight and 3000K evening light.
Does a 3mm chamfer actually show, or is it just a spec-sheet detail?
It shows as a fine line of light along every edge, which is exactly enough to separate six adjacent fronts without adding a visible gap or a frame. It also softens the arris so the lacquer does not chip at the corner — the most common failure point on a sprayed slab door. The chamfer is machined before spraying and sealed in the same two-coat system, not left as raw MDF.
Will brushed brass tarnish next to a hob?
Untreated brass oxidises and goes brown, which is why these pulls are PVD-coated over a brushed finish: the grain stays visible but the colour does not move. If a programme wants a living finish that patinates on purpose, uncoated brass is available on the same drilling — we would just flag it as a maintenance decision rather than a default.
Does a dark matt kitchen show fingerprints and grease?
Less than a gloss dark front, more than a light one. Matte at 5 gloss units scatters light instead of reflecting it, so fingerprints do not read the way they do on high gloss. Cooking grease near the hob is the real risk, which is why the topcoat is polyurethane rather than a matt paint: it wipes clean without burnishing the sheen. An anti-fingerprint topcoat is available for high-traffic rental programmes.
How is the colour approved before production?
Three routes: match to a RAL or NCS reference, match to a physical sample you send, or we spray three 200 × 300mm panels in adjacent values and courier them for approval. Production does not start until a signed panel comes back, and on repeat orders we keep the approved panel and the batch formulation on file.
How does a 20-piece order work, and what are the lead times?
Twenty pieces per model, and the 20 can be split across widths, door styles and even a two-tone split. A single paid sample kitchen is available for evaluation. Production runs 30 to 35 days after colour approval, and sea freight to Le Havre or Fos-sur-Mer adds 30 to 35 days. We are a 20,000 m² factory in Jiangshan, Zhejiang, supplying several of the world's ten largest building-material brands on the same lines.
